Our eyes are like windows which allow light to shine into our souls. Vision, though so precious and priceless, is often taken for granted. Just like windows that need constant care to stay polished and keep your view in clear focus, so do your eyes!

A dear colleague of ours is down with eye infection recently and we, at Tarazz, felt it would be helpful to share with everyone on how to take care of our eyes :)

Some tips:

1. Do not wash the eyes or face when the body is sweating.

2. Protect your eyes from dust, smoke, strong sunlight and strong wind.

3. Wear safety glasses while at work or play that may cause injury to your eyes.

4. Always use sunglasses during the peak day time to protect your eyes from sunrays. Direct sun rays cause heavy damage to eyes.

5. Do not wear contact lenses for extended periods of time or overnight as this leads to complication.

6. Do not rub eyes frequently as this can cause an eye infection as few of us bother to wash our hands before touching our eyes.

7. Stop staring into the screens. Obey the 20/20/20 rule: For every 20 minutes of screen time, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to maintain your eyes’ focusing system.

8. Make sure the light is right for your eyes. If you work in light that is too dim or hold a book too close to your eyes when reading, you will strain your eyes unnecessarily.

9. Exercise is great for your eyes, your body, relaxes your mind, reduces stress, and improves blood circulation which improves oxygen levels reaching all your organs and removes toxins from the body.

10. Have regular eye checks at the opticians so that any problems with your eyes can be found and treated early.

Essentials for a fishing trip!

You will firstly need your set of equipment!

A fishing rod and remember, always to bring extra baits of different types along. You will never know how many you will use during your fishing trip and it does help when certain bait is not working well and using a different one may actually suit the condition and environment of your fishing spot better. You definitely wish to increase your chances of a catch, don’t you?

For a fruitful fishing trip, do invest some money in getting a good fishing rod with good equipment as the bad ones tend to snap very easily and you will end up getting cut or dropping your rod into the sea.

Next, Fishing spots!

You may be surprised but within Singapore, there are actually plenty of spots around for fishing hobbyists. There are shores and jetties such as the Bedok jetty, reservoirs and streams such as the Kranji Reservoir, offshore islands such as Pulau Ubin and of course, the usual pay ponds such as the one operating at Pasir Ris Town Park. Because many people are, it seems. What with the many online blogshop directories, spree sites and, of course, Tarazz, we feel it's important to help everyone understand the differences between all the online shopping options available in Singapore.

Blogshops
These are online "shops" hosted on blog publishing applications, such as Blogger or LiveJournal. They've become more and more prevalent recently, but unfortunately many sell clothes sourced from the same wholesalers in China. If you see shops advertising "Korean fashion 200+ styles" or anything to that effect, they come from China and are not of the best quality.

However, there are real blogshops out there selling their own designer-inspired designs at bargain prices - often with quality fabrics and cuttings as well. As such, you have to search for the real deals in a sea of This Fashion-esque shops (no offence to This Fashion, some of their stuff and also the China wholesale stuff can be good). The best way to this is through word-of-mouth in lifestyle forums (NOT shopping forums).

Local Online Shops
Online shops are often bigger versions of blogshops. Wares are one-of-a-kind and of better quality. Expect slightly higher prices; these shops come with higher stock inventories and the convenience of shopping carts. However, everything is still cheaper than in a brick-and-mortar store! I've noticed that there are getting to be more good local online stores lately.

Overseas Online Shops
Here is where all spree sites and Tarazz.com come in. Shopping from overseas online shops in the US, UK, Japan etc. is expensive - not because of item prices, but because of international shipping. Sprees were therefore created to overcome this problem by having many people shop together from say, Victoria's Secret, and sharing shipping costs, since shipping costs per unit weight decrease with increasing weight. Some spree sites also order from Taiwan online shops, where items are cheap and fashionable but made for discarding at the end of every season.

The problem of sprees, however, are

Trust: organizers can easily take your money and run off with it.
Inconvenience: you can only order when there's a spree going on for the shop you want to order from, and only when enough people order for a reasonable shipping cost. When items arrive, you have to wait for them to be mailed to you from the spree organizer. So you might have to spree from 3 different sites at one go with 3 separate payments and orders to track. Often, you can only pay via bank transfers.
